OTDRs are often used with a launch cable, and may also use a receive cable. The launch cable allows the OTDR to recover after the test pulse is sent into the fiber. This cable also provides an invaluable reference on the first connector (on patch panel) of the cable under test for determining its loss and reflectance. A receive cable may be used on the far end to enable measurements of the connector (loss and reflectance) on the end of the cable under test as well.

Fiber Rings with test leads have 0.7 meter long test leads with outer jacket made from Thermoplastic Urethanes for high flexibility and crash resistance, rubber glands and foam for further protection. Bulkhead style Fiber Rings use high quality square flange adapters to minimize reflections when connected to the OTDR or to a fiber link under test.
