Quality part 1
The EZZ Premium Grade Patch Cords and Pig-tails, besides remarkable optical properties such as Insertion Loss and Return Loss, offer full control of the End Face Geometry, Cleanliness, Surface Defects and Mechanical Integrity.
All those parameters represent an essential characteristics and are necessary to ensure long-term repeatability and reliable optical fiber connections. Values shown are EZZ limits.
Radius of curvature ROC measures 7-25 mm (figure A). Apex Offset (figure B) may reach 50 µm from the fiber center.
Fiber undercut is the distance, up to 100 nm, of the fiber below the rounded end-face of the ferrule (figure C). Its opposite is fiber protrusion, when the fiber is protruding, up to 50 nm, from the end of the connector as shown in figure D.
The interferometer provides 3D information and tests three specific components of the connector. They are the radius of curvature, offset of polish (Apex), and the fiber height.
Figure E shows Apex ideally aligned with the central axis of fiber. ROC shape is symmetrical and there is no sign of undercut or protrusion on figure F.
Figure G shows Apex out of limit. Figure H shows non symmetrical ROC shape and a visible sign of undercut.
